Reminder May 3rd Intl Women Ride Day… :) M~2TVextreme.com celebrates… road warrior Bessie Stringfield …she was the first African-American woman to ride across the United States solo, and during World War II. <3

At the age of sixteen Stringfield taught herself to ride her first motorcycle, a 1928 Indian Scout. At the age of nineteen she commenced traveling across the United States and eventually rode through the 48 lower states, Europe, Brazil and Haiti. During this time she earned money from performing motorcycle stunts in carnival shows. Due to her skin color, Stringfield was often denied accommodation while traveling, so she would sleep on her motorcycle at filling stations. Due to her sex, she was refused prizes in flat track races she entered. [I'm sure that wasn't the only reason she was denied prizes..M2TVex] :-(

During WWII Stringfield served as a civilian courier for the US Army, carrying documents between domestic army bases. During the four years she worked for the Army she crossed the United States eight times. She regularly encountered racism during this time, reportedly being deliberately knocked down by a white male in a pickup truck while traveling in the South.

In the 1950s Stringfield moved to Miami, Florida where at first she was told “nigger women are not allowed to ride motorcycles” by the local police. However, she qualified as a nurse there and founded the Iron Horse Motorcycle Club. Her skill and antics at motorcycle shows gained the attention of the local press, leading to the nickname of “The Negro Motorcycle Queen”. This nickname later changed to “The Motorcycle Queen of Miami”, a moniker she carried for the remainder of her life. In 1990 the AMA paid tribute to her in their inaugural “Heroes of Harley-Davidson” exhibition she having owned 27 of their motorcycles. :-) Stringfield died in 1993 at the age of 82 from a heart condition having kept riding right up until the time of her death.

In 2000 the AMA created the “Bessie Stringfield Memorial Award” to recognize outstanding achievement by a female motorcyclist, and Stringfield was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2002. ;-)

Spain’s Monteblanco circuit was the setting for Avintia Racing’s 2013 launch on Friday. As well as running CRT bikes for Hiroshi Aoyama and Héctor Barberá in MotoGP™ this year, the squad also has Toni Elías and Britain’s Kyle Smith in its Moto2 <3

MGP: Dani Pedrosa decided to curtail his running at Circuit of the Americas on Thursday, completing the third and final day of the private test with just 24 laps to his name. Yet to discover precisely why, the Spaniard was suffering from neck pain

MGP: Stefan Bradl is confident that he and LCR Honda MotoGP will be able to achieve podium finishes this season. Furthermore, the German is particularly optimistic about the possibility becoming a reality at the second round in Texas.

F1: McLaren were off the pace in Australia on Friday. Jenson Button achieving a top-ten grid slot on Saturday is looking tough, unless the unpredictable Melbourne weather comes to their aid…

The opening practice sessions in Melbourne were both familiar and odd. We are used to Red Bull being fastest, but rarely on a Friday when the world champions normally opt to play their cards close to their chest. What does it all mean? Sebastian Vettel seemed pretty happy.… :)

Eric Boullier (Team Lotus), Paul Hembery (Pirelli), Jean-Michel Jalinier (Renault Sport F1), Martin Whitmarsh (McLaren), Toto Wolff (Mercedes). Q: Jean-Michel, after three very successful years partnership with Red Bull as the engine supplier, objectives for this 2013 season? Another double world championship :)

Over the winter McLaren lost their star driver. Now their technical director is headed to a rival team and their title sponsors have announced their departure at the end of this season. On top of that, their new car looked decidedly short of pace in Melbourne on Friday. So is team principal Martin Whitmarsh still optimistic for 2013? We caught up with him after the opening practice sessions at Albert Park

MotoGP™ rookie Marc Márquez leaves Circuit of the Americas with confidence, having topped all three days of this week’s private test. Just four riders took to the track on Thursday, with Dani Pedrosa and Stefan Bradl completing the top three. :D

Segment TBC:

One of our programs feature segments is athletes who ride motorcycles. Although it’s taboo for pro-ballers to ride as it may be in their contract. A few still do on the side.
David Beckham, B. Rothlisberger, K. Winslow, J, Koeppel… just to name a few… Some who’ve experienced accidents riding their motorbikes.
Talking about the safety one has to take especially being an athlete will be something to review…
We hope to interview the few who still ride and ride safely in the world of Sports and Entertainment...
Perhaps we’ll start with CFL players… Argos, or Lyon (Lions)…
Closer to home… Unless my contacts In California can hook us up with a Raiders, 49ers, Laker, Galaxy, Angels, Chargers, Dodgers, Clippers, Kings, Sharks athlete who still ride motorcycle on the side or post retirement.

Hangtown Motocross Classic, hosted mere minutes from the California State Capitol, serves as the traditional season opening round for Lucas Oil Pro Motocross and will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2013. The season’s East Coast debut at the High Point National will follow three weeks later on June 8, 2013, with the third and final leg of the Women’s Pro Motocross Triple Crown set to take place on June 29 in the sand at the Moto-X 338 National.

HIMX Entries Open Hawkstone International

HIMX are pleased to announce that entries are now open for the 2013 Hawkstone International MX to be staged at Hawkstone Park on 10th February. There will be an MX1 and MX2 class plus a support class, only 20 entries are available for the support race the other 20 will be made up from 10 from MX1 timed practice and 10 from MX2 timed practice.

The Club had a huge turnout of riders and spectators for the 2012 Hawkstone International and will be hoping for similar again in 2013. With the early February date it gives spectators the opportunity to get their ‘race fix’ after the long winter break. Once again it is expected that some of the best riders from the GP circuit and also the top British Championship riders will be competing at the event.

Hawkstone are actively looking for more sponsors of the 2013 event to add to their current loyal supporters. Sponsorship prices start from as little as £250 – for more details or the sponsorship package please contact me on carly.rathmell@btinternet.com or carlyrathmell@yahoo.co.uk.

The Clough Taylor People’s Run is a new event established so that people can pay tribute to and thank two remarkable men while supporting some great causes.

Brian Clough and Peter Taylor brought so much to the cities of Nottingham and Derby; success, pride, profile, glory….. Now it is possible to say thank you and to mark their incredible contribution to the region and its people by giving up a morning to run (or jog or walk) 10km (6.2 miles) for charity… Sunday March 10th, 2013.

M~2TVex, had hoped to cover the Vancouver Motorcycle showcase to kick off our 2013 season. Media Accrd did not factor in for that event. There are more events to come and we hope to be there to cover it for you.
On the interim we also had some technical difficulties with our Website and were unable to post this earlier.

We all know in the motorcyclist lifestyle, getting Inked (Tattoo) is a mainstay, just a way of life. Mind you, you don’t have to be a biker to dawn a Tat’.
In our next segment, we would like to correlate, show the relation, or link so to speak, to the workings of Body Art and Motorcycle Art… aka Paint job.
This will be done in a series of still photography and interviews of Tattoo Artist we’ve put together to slightly tell our story.

On the 34th Annual Vancouver Toy Run: October 7th 2012. This interview took place on Friday, October 12th… a very busy week for ACC. It was hard to pin Len down for this interview… Thanks Len for your time.
As some of you [viewers/patrons] of M~2TVextreme.com know, we posted that Azzkikr Customs Cycles was participating in this year’s Charity Ride and that they had also organized their own meet at their home base on the Fraser Hwy, in Langley BC.
We’re back! And as we promised you, an interview with one of the owners of ACC: Azzkikr Custom Cycles. On the phone today [Fri 12th Oct] we spoke to Len Edmondson about his participation in the 34th Annual Toy Run, which occurred Thanksgiving Sunday (Oct 7th).
It was great to finally get in touch with Len as he’s always on the go, a man on a mission, to bring ACC [Azzkikr Custom Cycles] to the next level. We briefly touched on ACC’s goals, what ACC will be producing, and where you will see them in the future.
This is the point where we start the interview with Mr. Edmondson… Azzkikr Custom Cycles has been an avid participant in the Toy Run for the past 8 years. This year they started out with 32 bikers who joined them by invitation only. Note that about half a dozen of them were new riders. The bikes ACC used were their own – you can see similar motorcycles on display in their shop.
The riders set out from Langley at about 10 am to meet up with the starting point of the Toy Run in Coquitlam and then continued on, meandering through streets and by-ways to Vancouver , to the site of the PNE: Pacific National Exhibition. Joining up with approximately 7,000 more riders on this route, is a great way to showcase what Azzkikr Custom Bikes can do on the road. While at the PNE Azzkikr showcased their custom bikes and baggers before they took the long ride back home to Langley.
The Toy Run Len’s started is a good course, but rather a short ride, lasting only approximately one hour. Not as much scenery as other rides he’s been on, but, it is for a good cause and he is willing to participate, weather permitting , each year on future runs. Another ride ACC was involved with is the Musicians for Therapy Ride, [http://musictherapyride.org ]which occurred on September 8th. This ride takes you from Fraser Downs Raceway in Cansino Vancouver, down to Hwy 7 East, passing through Abbotsford and up to Chilliwack, ending at the The Harrison Hot Springs Resort ‘s Lakeside Café. Len went on to say that he would like ACC to have their own run in future and is working closely with the organizers of the Music Therapy Ride Organization.
Here is a little history about the conception of Azzkikr Custom Cycles. The founder hails from Winnipeg, AB. At the tender age of 16 he started out building and refurbishing cars. It turned out he couldn’t afford the cost of completing the car he wanted to build so he traded it in for a motorcycle. His first bike was Norton 750 Commando [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norton_Commando] and he later graduated to the FXR – HD model, [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harley-Davidson_Super_Glide]. He continued to build, using Harley Davidson manufactured parts.
Later on, after starting a family and his own business, Flynn Canada Limited (a construction company), http://www.flynn.ca/Index.aspx, Len moved to Alberta, continued to build cars and bikes: even having his family join in on projects. Not long after, the family made another move to [BC] British Columbia in 2000, and in 2006 {partnering with his son Gord} Azzkikr Customs Cycles, builders of cars and bikes was born. http://azzkikr.ca/. Since then ACC has fabricated, modified, and produced over a hundred cars and bikes. Most of their sales go to “out of province” or “out of country” customers. Recently ACC has been developping its own ‘Deluxe Specialty Baggers’, using primarily HD[Harley Davidson] parts and frames. The future for Azzkikr Customs Cycles is manufacturing its own Brand of motorcycles from start to finish. Their goal is to make their name in the industry as true custom motorcyle builders.
