The opening practice sessions in Melbourne were both familiar and odd. We are used to Red Bull being fastest, but rarely on a Friday when the world champions normally opt to play their cards close to their chest. What does it all mean? Sebastian Vettel seemed pretty happy.

Over the winter McLaren lost their star driver. Now their technical director is headed to a rival team and their title sponsors have announced their departure at the end of this season. MotoGP™ rookie Marc Márquez leaves Circuit of the Americas with confidence, having topped all three days of this week’s private test. Just four riders took to the track on Thursday, with Dani Pedrosa and Stefan Bradl completing the top three.
